Higashimachi Dragon

This psychedelic piece depicts the dragon that Katsushika Hokusai created for the ceiling of the Higashimachi Float in 1844. In this year, when Hokusai visited Obuse at the age of 85, he painted the dragon and phoenix that decorate the ceiling of Higashimachi Float. The phoenix, on dark indigo background, and the dragon, on red background, represent respectively the Chinese concept of Yin and Yang.
