Higashimachi Phoenix

This psychedelic piece depicts the phoenix that Katsushika Hokusai created for the ceiling of the Higashimachi Float in 1844. In this year, when Hokusai visited Obuse at the age of 85, he painted the dragon and phoenix that decorate the ceiling of the Higashimachi Float. The phoenix on dark indigo background, represent the Chinese concept of Yin and Yang.
